What Are NATED Courses?

They are National Diploma course programmes developed by the Department of Higher Education and Training (DHET) that combine practical and theory-based learning to provide students with the best possible education and training.

The courses in this programme take between 36 and 54 months to complete. In the first 36 months, you will complete three theory-based certificates. These certificates are:  


In the last 18 months of your course, you will be required to complete practical work-based training, which, once you have completed it, will make you eligible for an N6 Diploma in the field you have chosen.

Who Accredits NATED Courses?

The National Qualifications course programme or NATED Course programme is regulated and accredited by the QCTO, The Quality Council of Trades and Occupations and DHET (Department of Higher Education and Training).

What Are The Requirements To For A NATED Course?

Firstly, you will need to be above the age of 16, and you will also need to know how to read and write in English. You will need to have a National Senior Certificate (NSC) or Senior Certificate(SC).


Previously it was possible to apply for these courses with a Matric Equivalent qualification, but that has since changed and is no longer possible.
